Most EGM operators can demonstrate compliance. They have frameworks, controls, training records and board oversight. That is no longer the primary test. AUSTRAC and State regulators are increasingly focused on whether those controls reliably shape decisions and behaviour in venues when commercial pressure is highest. For many operators, that is precisely where the gap sits, and where boards often cannot see it from the inside.

While regulatory requirements may be applied differently to some participants of the gambling industry, it is only a matter of time before a level playing field is enforced.
